HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST IMAGES:

I can use any kind of image: a photograph, children’s drawings, artworks. Bear in mind that images will be greatly reduced in size and disguised behind the resin. What becomes more important is colour, composition and contrast. Thin lines and tiny details tend to disappear. Images become obscure and antique in appearance, private and intimate. This is not just a photo in a locket. it is the interaction with the resin that makes it interesting and unique

Please email me at least 2 uncropped images as soon as you can and allow 10 working days for a custom piece like this

WHY:

I have been playing around with resin since my final years at university. What drew me to it is the way it allows you to capture and protect something delicate, like a time capsule. I was working a lot with memory and transformation and the ways we create meaning. For me, the fixing of a significant image and the layering of the levels of protection is a very powerful metaphor

We have the image fixed to paper

The paper fixed in resin

The resin fixed in the frame

The frame secured to a chain on one’s neck

Then - even though the image is fixed, suspended - interaction still occurs:

The hand-finished resin becomes a bit more clear over time as we polish it with our fingers and when we hold the pendant up against the light, the images on the two sides become superimposed, interacting in a most serendipitous way
