JACO'S RING

this was my first commissioned piece when we moved back to South Africa in 2012 - my interpretation of an Irish wedding band. i had just had the delivery of my complete kit from Oberholzer's, rolling mill, ring stretcher - the works (luckily i was able to save up a bit while working in London). the only thing i didn't get from them was my smelting torch - because even when you are just being practical - looks still matter, and i got a really beautiful one from Cape watch. the gas people came to setup the torch system for me and here i am, fresh of the aeroplane, smelting and soldering in my childhood bedroom, over a wool carpet. thank my stars nothing red-hot fell on the floor

it came out lovely. each component was individually carved and then assembled, with gold plating to finish.
